Interesting they say the flight's success is still unknown according to that article.

I did find one from less than an hour ago but nothing on success of the mission, but a similar picture.

The 97-foot-long rocket’s first stage left a corkscrew-shaped contrail, while the second stage could clearly be seen heading south high in the western sky.

Well… The feature in that one is military launch within 24h notice, so don’t think we get to know whats up beyond the things everyone can see… Its apparently going into sun synchronus orbit, so whatever its purpose is, its in a polar orbit, eventually more or less scanning over all the planet surface.

That doesn't sound good by any means. Who knows what the intentions of the scanning, or whatever else it's monitoring in the process. It seems the people are more the enemies these days.

Beautiful and intriguing photo. I don't live in LA, but have seen many unexplainable things in the sky and on land. We don't really know much of anything. Not yet...

I can't really tell what I'm looking at.

I saw what looked like a fireball when I was a kid. Didn't tell anyone. Thought there would be reports the next day. Never heard a thing.

I have felt unexplainable things.

Most bolides don't make the news, though one that almost hit me and my gf near Effingham, Illinois garnered a minor news mention.

Yeah, I assumed it didn't hit the earth. It seemed so close to landing at the time.

Wow can't imagine being that close to one.

I drew a small picture of it and wrote about it.

My brother came across my words at some point and said something like, 'that didn't happen.'

Talk about cancel culture!!!! Ha!!!

A friend and I once did this likely very foolish experiment. We were methodical.

Taking turns, one of us would squat down and pant (with a bed right behind us). Then stand up and hold our breath.

I don't remember how we came to try this.

We would then pass out and fall backwards on the bed. One at a time, the other witnessing and monitoring.

I told my brother later and he said, 'that doesn't work!!!'

Ha again!!!!

Don't know how yours looked; usually they're really bright, shadow-casting meteors. We'd gone down in her superbeetle from Champaign to pick up a friend who worked at Chanute. Just before we got to Effingham, the entire landscape lit up. I unbelted and leaned forward to look up through the nearly vertical windshield to see what caused it. Saw what looked like an inverted fireworks palm tree almost directly overhead. It exploded not far above the ground. Didn't hear anything above the not inconsiderable road noise.

He was crossing the Mississippi from St. Louis and saw it low on the horizon.

It was very long ago. What I remember is a bright ball of red fire coming straight down. But judging distance pretty impossible. I was looking across an expanse of woods. It was pretty magical.

Kitten - can you or one of your readers tell me how to delete an unwanted follower from my Substack account? They are almost unreachable for user questions.

Thanks!

was trying to figure it out & somehow got on as your “follower,” (sorry)… not entirely sure what this entails but it seems like they might just get your “notes” if you re-stack someone’s post… will let you know if I find out how to delete

Haha - now YOU I'm not worried about as a "follower" - I did send an email to Substack support - it's the one question they don't answer on their FAQ. We'll see what they say ...
