Love, American Style was a wacky, romantic comedy sitcom from the 1970s. back then it was a bit edgy (quaint by today’s comparison) just barely meeting “Mom, the household censor” standards for us pre-teen kids.
we were well schooled, pledging allegiance to our American Flag, singing America the Beautiful, learning about our Declaration of Independence & Constitution enumerating our Freedoms, including most importantly our Freedom of Speech, Freedom to communicate our thoughts Freely, American Style.
Hollywood claimed to mirror reality in America, a place where having a great idea and relentless work ethic could net anyone the fabled American Dream or as my Latino boss, Arturo, a Mexican-American immigrant who worked up the ladder to restaurateur, financial executive without a degree liked to quip “feed the masses to eat with the classes.”
what’s not to Love?
this is the definition of American Patriotism to me, it is the act of defending our common values as enumerated in our Declaration of Independence & Constitution, American Patriotism IS ‘Love of our GOD-Given Rights & Freedoms, Love of our Fellow Patriots who Live & Breathe our Shared Values, Risk Lives in their Defense.’
being indoctrinated in this manner has its downsides. probably one of the reasons so many are still asleep to reality, the American Dream is our version of ‘comfort food.’ we dream it as the well-deserved, desired endpoint, life’s goal post. any threat we are lectured, a basis for war, even a “temporary” suspension of our fellow patriots’ freedoms or worse (a form of State War waged against We The People, The Patriots?)
conversely, was this superb indoctrination the reason many Americans continue to resist infringement of their blessed freedoms? did it fire up our impetus to research, search for the truth in the face of Blatant Lies despite hurdles of censorship, penalties, threats? a textbook case of psy-op-flop?
Question Everything, Fight for Love, American Style.
Happy Birthday America!
On the war side of things we may have been to some degree, but our freedoms and lifestyles were all American, fun, freedom, God, family, and country. That is how my family continues to live.
